Started reading up on the code dependency tool: “Wire” for compile time dependency injection with go lang. In Wire, dependencies between components are represented as function parameters, encouraging explicit initialization instead of global variables.

I can’t believe it, but I completed making the gRPC endpoint, learnt a lot of how things work in golang, and realized there’s still a lot to learn about. But wow! an amazing experience. (Also love how so much impact my code will have!)

Working on making a new RPC endpoint to invalidate serviceable cells cache that restaurants store at their level.

Today, I’m starting with PHP! Reading “PHP The Right Way”, and thoroughly enjoying it. But yeah it was amazing working with Go and GRPC previous week. The rate of learning at Z is super fast, but I’m not complaining, it’s actually a lot of growth in a short time.

Yesterday I completed my first milestone! 🥳 Reduced the API response time to get location in the Zomato app by about *80%* in the first week of my joining :p !

Yo! It’s been a minute since I posted here, but I just hopped on the Z train and I gotta get my groove on with Go. So I’m starting with this fresh book: “Learn Go with Tests”, it’s showing me the ropes of Go with a TDD twist.

It's kinda amazing to know that I can actually maintain consistency (at least for 10 days straight ) Hope to keep this going for more!

Day 9 of #10-days-in-public made progress on JavaScript Data structures and algorithms, will finish day 7 and 8 of Advent of code by today 😤 ! Also finished our major project today, presentation tomorrow :D

Day 8/10 of #10-days-in-public! Completed day 6 of AoC, it was much easier than I thought it'd be. Did a lot of work on my "copyright infringement detector" project, sketched a data model for storing perceptual hashes of our videos, hosted a redis instance on digital ocean and pushed all our data on it. Wrote a lot of python, and ffmpeg scripts for the project, kinda getting the hang of python now.

Day 7/10 of #10-days-in-public! Worked on AoC day 5. Parsing took a good amount of time, but the algorithm was pretty straightforward, had a lot of fun :) Also refreshed my regex knowledge today, and solved some regex puzzles today!

Day 6/10 of #10-days-in-public: Solved day 4 of AoC and worked on another JavaScript DSA problem today!

Also attended DevFest New Delhi today (3rd Dec '22) at Radisson Blu, Aerocity. I posted all the updates about devfest on my twitter :p AND the coolest thing about this event was the dedicated Web track. It was so soo amazing to attend all the JS talks! I need more JS talks in my life <3

Day 5/10 of #10-days-in-public, completed today's AoC, submitted CFP for ceph days nyc 🤞, and will solve "Wherefore art thou" question of fcc's intermediate js algorithm scripting course later today! Excited ✨ (also my end sem exams starting from 12th December, hope that doesn't mess up my consistency :D )

Day 3/10 of #10-days-in-public Wrote some Scala for my Big Data with Hadoop and Spark course, and found scala really cool. Attended DelhiFOSS yesterday, organized by the amazing FOSS United. Met a lot of cool nerds and learnt a lot from the talks!

OMG TIL that React StrictMode (which is enabled by default in create-react-app) renders components twice in order to detect any problems with your code and warn you about them. Even react docs mentions this! How I came across this: I added a Toast component in my useEffect, and it was showing up twice on every load. Which lead me to a LOT of reading and googling, and realizing I'm using useEffect wrong and React is trying to tell me that :) This was fun.

Making a full stack application and trying out FastApi :python: . It's a leads management system (CRM). Frontend in react and bulma, and backend in fastapi ✨

Found out that you can attach developer tools to a separate Chrome instance using the "chrome devtools protocol". Can be very useful for when some malicious website doesn't let you open devtools or has mechanisms in place to detect when user opens devtools. (Like a lot of online test platforms prevent users from opening dev tools to prevent plagiarism)

Today I learnt that all elements in a DOM with an ID are available as global variables. In other words, the value of the id attribute for all elements are made available as properties of the global window object, and since window is the global object in the browser, it is accessible as a global variable! This is so cool, and why wasn't I aware of this omg 🤩 Edit: doesn't work on firefox, and don't use in production, only for testing stuff :)

TIL from Hussein Nasser that there's this new feature built into the browser, through which you can easily "lazy" load your images! It's as simple as just adding loading=lazy attribute in your <img> tags! If ya don't know what lazy loading does, it just defers loading the image until it reaches a calculated distance from the viewport, as defined by the browser. The intent is to avoid the network and storage bandwidth needed to handle the image until it's reasonably certain that it will be needed. This generally improves the performance of the content in most typical use cases.

Reading about threads and processes synchronization today for my operating systems and systems programming exam tomorrow!

Reading about how CERN has been using ceph to store data at petabyte scale (or more) without ever missing/corrupting even a single byte of data. Also learnt about tape storage, it's very interesting that something that I considered very old is now an integral part of cutting edge technology.

Working on a new blog post on different stages of software development, and what runtime, compile time, build time mean and respective errors. Conducted a discussion about JavaScript in our club, we discussed about js runtimes, browser engines, esm, bundlers and tc39.

My visual tests are now catching diffs that will 100% be missed by any e2e tests! This diff is of bootstrap v4 to v5 migration changes which drops the form-group class, this is a breaking change and will break a lot of things on the internet! Except our ceph dashboard ;)

Somtimes things are not as complicated as you think! I've been banging my head trying to run cypress e2e tests (from docker), it didn't work in the first run, I thought I'm doing things wrong, googled stuff, found that I need to catch xvfb messages (X things) and pass it to my host. Spent two hours trying to read different scripts that run ceph cypress e2e tests and trying to pass down flags in there and hoping they'll run. At the end (tl;dr) I figured things out, my mind came to right place and I found that the only bug was that cypress base url was using http instead of https. And I only need to run npx cypress open from the frontend directory. :stare: So now I finally can run the e2e tests!!!! I'm almost in tears seeing things just work now! 💖 😭

Digging deeper into how broken web development is rn. What I've seen is that developers are taught that the only way to create an application is to use all these APIs and frameworks that have already solved a problem. The issue, I think is that all these frameworks and apis don't actually solve your problem. It has solved someone else's. So the so-called pieces don't really fit together well, and you end up needing a bunch of duct tape and glue to hold things together.
